The Carl Dolan Race

28th Annual Carl Dolan Memorial Spring Classic, Saturday May 13, 2023

DC Velo would like to welcome all bike racers, their families and friends back to the storied loop of the Columbia Gateway Business Park race course. This is our 28th year hosting this classic event. The event was originally known as the Columbia Spring Classic. In 1999 our teammate and friend Carl Dolan died while racing his bike, and we have renamed the event in his honor. The race lives on as the Carl Dolan Memorial Spring Classic.

7015 Albert Einstein Dr, Columbia, MD 21046

COURSE:  a 2.1 mile loop with excellent road surfaces and a short climb to the start/finish at the Columbia Gateway Business Park in Columbia, MD.  See course map and elevation profile at Carl Dolan Strava segment

DIRECTIONS:  from I-95 between Baltimore and Washington, DC, take MD Route 175 West (Exit 41 West toward Columbia).  From MD 175, take the exit for Columbia Gateway Dr. and proceed to parking and registration on Albert Einstein Dr.  Google Maps.

PARKING AREA:  We have permission to use the Osiris Biotech parking area behind the registration tent.  This is the only race day parking we have authorization to use.  To help ensure our continued permission to use the venue, park only in this lot.

LICENSING:  The Carl Dolan Memorial Spring Classic is a USA Cycling sanctioned event; held under permit #7214.  USAC Road rules apply.  A racing license is required to enter; please provide your USAC license # when registering online, and be prepared to show your license at check-in.  Unlicensed riders may only race in categories that are open to Novice (Cat. 5) men or women, and will be charged an additional $10 in their BikeReg shopping cart for a 1-Day license.  Higher category riders with expired licenses who prefer not to pay the $100 renewal fee may purchase an Experienced 1-Day for $35 only through your USAC account.

ENTRY FEES:  The entry fee for Juniors is $15.00 for all races; use the coupon code MABRA_Jrs_CDMem2023 to receive the discounted pricing for non-Junior races.  The entry fee for all other riders is $40.00 for the first race and $20.00 for additional races.  Note that the multi-race discount is applied automatically only when the entries are purchased together; otherwise use the 'Contact Us' link below to request a partial refund for the second race.  BikeReg assesses a service charge for each entry purchased.  A surcharge of $15.00 will be assessed for adult riders purchasing their first entry on race day; for Junior riders the surcharge will be $5.00.  Entry fees are non-refundable.

RACE DAY CHECK-IN & REGISTRATION will take place in the registration tent on Albert Einstein Dr., off of Columbia Gateway Dr.  Check-in & registration open at 6:30 AM.  Check-in & registration for each race will close 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.  At that time, available spots will be given to any waitlisted riders in order of their date & time of entry.

ALL START TIMES ARE ESTIMATES.  Racing will conclude by 5:00 PM; races may be shortened to observe this schedule.  The race will be held wind, rain or shine.

COMBINED CATEGORY RACES will race together as one field but will be scored separately, with separate prize lists.  The Junior fields will start separately by 3 age groups, and will be scored separately.  The Master Men 45+ field will start 1 minute ahead of the Master Men 55+/65+ field and each age group will be scored separately.

JUNIOR GEAR ROLLOUT:  gear restrictions will be enforced for all Junior riders.  Post-race gear rollout for Juniors is required; this applies to Juniors racing in Senior fields as well.  The Chief Referee will announce the rollout time and location at the start line on race day.
